This is the Assignment: Thanks to your help, Francisco and Sarah were able to understand that some of the conflicts they were experiencing were based on cultural differences. Since then, though, they have discovered new areas of disagreement, and Francisco is quietly troubled by some of the things that Americans think are important.
Review the module content on cultural patterns. Use theHofstede comparison tool(Links to an external site.)to type in the United States. Then, use Mexico as the comparison country. Selectthree clear differences in the cultural patterns of Mexico and the U.S. As one example, there is a difference in power distance scores between the two cultures, but the scores on long-term orientation are nearly identical. Selecting power distance, then, as a difference to discuss makes more sense than selecting long-term orientation.
Then, explain to Francisco how each of the three U.S. cultural patterns are different from the cultural patterns he knows because he grew up in Mexico. Explain to Sarah how the same three patterns are different in Mexico.
Important note: Since you have already discussed the pattern of individualistic/collectivist cultures with Francisco and Sarah, please don't reuse that pattern for this challenge. Select three other patterns.
Write your assignment in the form of a letter. Address the letter directly to Francisco and Sarah. Your letter should be at least 400 words in length.
To organize your letter, create one paragraph for each of the three specific cultural differences you name and discuss. You may include an introductory and concluding paragraph if you wish.
Your completed challenge should include:
- An explanation for Francisco of three of the U.S. cultural patterns/dimensions that are different from Mexican cultural patterns (e.g., how power distance is viewed and handled in the U.S.).
- An explanation for Sarah of the same three dimensions you selected, discussing how Mexican cultural patterns/dimensions are different from the U.S. cultural patterns (e.g., how power distance is viewed and handled in Mexico).
