This is the eleventh Ethics & Compliance Specialist Capstone Project installment as outlined in Module 0 located in the Learning Modules section.
The basis for your work will be the knowledge gained in this module related to the benefits and challenges of workplace diversity, the employer's ethical commitment to accommodating the needs of its employees, and the ethical considerations related to the treatment of animals.
In order to assist your Capstone employer with their focus on dimensions of respect, you will "benchmark" the U.S. Department of Commerce ("DOC") Civil Rights Division Programs and Services section of their website (select and enter sections with left-hand menu), the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") Animal Testing & Cosmetics section of their website, and respond to the following questions:
- Based on your review of each the "Programs and Services" section categories, describe the types of diverse employees working for the DOC.
- Based on the information provided about each initiative and program targeted to the employee population, do you believe that the DOC is effective at promoting inclusion? Support your response.
- Discuss two benefits and two challenges of the diverse workforce employed at the DOC. Also, do you believe that the "diversity dividend" concept applies to the diverse workforce employed at the DOC? Support your response.
- Select two types of discrimination from the Discrimination Quick Facts section and explain how the DOC commits to accommodating the needs of its employees. Based on your review, do you believe that the DOC is ethical in their approach. Support your response.
- Although the mission of the DOC does not address the ethical treatment of animals, the companies that they support are affected by this issue. The FDA is a sister-agency to the DOC and is responsible for addressing this focus area. Based on your review of the "Animal Testing & Cosmetics" section of their website, describe the content and indicate if this section adequately addresses the ethical considerations related to the treatment of animals. Do you believe that the language effectively addresses the intended protections for animals? Support your response.
