This is the last week and we've discussed about Fiscal Policy and the role of the government to balance the economy. We have discussed about budget deficit, budget surplus and balanced budget. If you think about it a balanced budget would be good in an economy but interestingly Prof Darren mentioned that a balanced budget is not necessarily good. He then asked us the question that if we have a uniform taxes regardless of income, who will be hurt the most. It made me realized that the most affected by this are the low income earners as their spending power will be limited if the taxes are too high in relation to their income. Balance budget for me should not be the only goal of the government, if this will be their aim, they might make bad decisions if they were restricted to have a balanced budget, every year different things happen in the economy and not all policies that will be implemented were the same. They might differ depending on circumstances. I would like to thank Prof Darren making my Macroeconomics course a valuable one. He's expertise help me understand the course.:-)
