Instructions for letter to your Representative https://uga.ct.gov 1. Find your state representative's personal web page 2. Think of an issue you would like to see resolved, fixed, amended -OR Find the bills that they have introduced and pick one that seems interesting (write down the bill number and the name of the bill (An Act Concerning...)). You may also find a bill that they haven't introduced in order to see where they stand/ or give them your opinion. 3. In Word or Google doc., start your email or letter to your representative. Using a Word/Google doc. ensures proper spelling and catches some grammatical errors. 4. Research your letter, if it is needed. You may choose to ask them about one of their bills, bring their attention to an issue that concerns you, or ask them to support someone else's bill. If you have other ideas on why you'd reach out to them. please see me to discuss. 5. When you are completed, have one of your classmates read over the letter to ensure all the essential parts are included Your letter must include; Essential Parts (see sample "formal email" on the back) 1. A proper heading. Dear Representative 2. Proper structure (Introductory sentence, paragraph for support, and concluding sentence) Introduction should identify yourself and your purpose 3. You must identify the bill number and bill name in your email/letter - OR- clearly state the issue you would like to see resolved, fixed, amended This should be a persuasive letter (I believe you should vote against/ vote for this bill OR- support this issue) At least two reasons why you want your Rep. to vote for or against the bill . A proper ending (Sincerely, Thank you for your consideration, etc)
