The other fossil-fueled plants in the grid consistently generate 4.5 megawatts. However, at some times during the day there is not enough water in the canyon for the rafts to make a trip through the canyon. Also, the trips depend on the existence of beaches which enable the rafts to stop and rest inside the canyon. Finally, environmentalists are worried that the peak power use of the dam will destroy the canyon because of increased erosion.
