This theory uses two levels to explain the influence of the media. The first level relates to objects of news coverage (e.g. political candidates, nation states, organizations) and their salience. The second level describes how news media influences how people think about a topic by selecting and emphasizing certain attributes or associations (and ignoring others) related to an organization.
