This week we are going to discuss the "employment-at-will" doctrine as it applies in the medical field.

Stage

Mr. PAUL has been an employee of the Regional Hospital for the past five years. He recently he terminated his employment. The reason for termination was: inability to follow instructions. However, the Regional Hospital has adopted an "employment at will" policy. So you do not have to provide any reason for termination. However, Mr. PAUL was very angry with the termination of him... so upset that he went to the media with his story.

Answer the initial question using these three scenarios. Identify each of them in an orderly manner.

Scenario 1

You work for the Human Resources Department at the Regional Hospital. The hospital attorney is preparing for the press conference regarding the termination of Mr. PAUL. In an effort to assist the attorney, he drafts a document listing reasons justifying termination of "employment at will" for the hospital.

What are your reasons for supporting this policy? His job is to convince the public that this is a necessary and useful policy.

Scenario 2

Now you work for an advocacy group that has decided to help Mr PAUL. Has a press conference in response to the Regional Hospital press conference.

What defects do you find in the position of the hospital? Why is "employment at will" not appropriate for the medical practice / industry? Read the contributions of your colleagues and select the contribution that interests you the most about the hospital.

Scenario 3

Now that I select, read the charges presented by the class. What position makes the most sense to you? The medical industry or practice should stick to an "employee at will" industry. Why and why not? Be sure to mention the contribution of a colleague
