This week we will learn to perform Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using both Excel and R/RStudio.

Suppose that we want to perform ANOVA to determine if the mean ACT score at a small college is the same for the entering classes for the following years: 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020.

In other words, we want to perform the following test:

H0: 2000=2005=2010=2015=2020

Ha: Not all population means are equal.

We take samples from each group of students, as listed below:

Entering Class Year of: Sample Size ACT Scores
2000 20 21, 20, 23, 22, 23, 23, 25, 22, 22, 21, 23, 21, 25, 20, 26, 21, 22, 22, 22, 24
2005 18 24,24, 23, 25, 23, 25, 25, 21, 25, 25, 25, 23, 23, 23, 23, 22, 23, 26
2010 24 22, 22, 22, 22, 24, 22, 24, 23, 25, 22, 22, 24, 23, 23, 22, 22, 22, 23, 21, 21, 22, 23, 21, 23
2015 19 23, 19, 24, 23, 21, 19, 24, 22, 22, 23, 22, 22, 26, 20, 21, 25, 23, 22, 23
2020 15 22, 23, 22, 22, 23, 22, 23, 24, 21, 23, 23, 25, 22, 24, 22
