This week, we'll be learning about geometry and statistics. Geometry is a kind of "visual math" that looks at the waypoints, lines, surfaces, solids, and other shapes are interrelated. It is one of the earliest branches of math that also examines sizes and distances between objects. Without geometry, we wouldn't have most of the art, architecture, maps, or products that we use every day.
Statistics is used toanalyze different kinds of data, and also involves measurement, percents, and proportions (which we discussed in Weeks 2 and 3). Much of the digital technology that you use today, including the Internet, the World Wide Web, smartphones, and social media, is dependent upon statistical analysis to work properly. Statistics are also widely used in healthcare - for example, to track population growth, epidemiology rates, and medication needs.
Think about some of the ways in which geometry and statistics have impacted your life. In this week's post, describe some of the benefits of being able to properly calculate statistics or appreciate the value of geometry in the world around you.
