This week we're studying monopolies and we know that they have great power in markets where they are the only provider of a good or service. In a broader sense, I want you review and evaluate the meaning of dominion from a Biblical and economic perspective.

Genesis 1: 26-28 records that God created men and women to "rule over" (NIV) or to "have dominion over" (KJV) the earth. This passage has caused controversy among Christians who favor economic growth and Christians who mostly favor environmental preservation. What does the passage mean for us today? Do recent commentators on these verses all agree that this is a pro-economic growth passage? Do they believe, that this verse has anything at all to say in justifying current economic policies? Consider the meaning of scarcity, and any other relevant verses (check the cross-references to Genesis 3: 17-19).
