This week you will need to submit your project proposal. If at all possible, it should relate to some type of business problem. For example, maybe you want to run a regression analysis to see if you can predict sales off of certain attributes?

Nonetheless, you'll submit a Word Document that would include the following components:

  1. Title of the project
  2. A paragraph-long problem statement. (Please try to keep it at a paragraph.)
  3. A link to a dataset(s) you will be using to study the problem. (If no link is available, you can simply attach the dataset to the submittal, or just show a screenshot of the first 5 or 10 rows.)
  4. List of at least three hypothesis or research questions. (Be certain these are testable - i.e. you can apply a statistical technique to these)
    1. We covered basic t-tests in Unit 2. Note, though, that in statistics there are many type of hypotheses. For example, in regression you can set up (and test) whether or not the Beta1 (your X variable) has a slope of 0. Beta2, 3, etc. if doing multiple regression.
  5. For each hypothesis list a suggested method to test it and the reason of choosing the method. You should use at least two different methods out of the following list: Regression analysis, Factor analysis, Propensity Score Matching, Classification, Cluster Analysis, Decision trees.
    1. I am perfectly fine if you want to try a technique we have not used in class. For example, some students have explored logistic regression for a binary dependent variable (i.e. Yes/No) and have compared the results to a Nave Bayes Classifier or a Support Vector Machine (SVM). This is but one of many examples.

There are so many techniques out there. Propose something and we can see if it works
