This week's discussion assignment is to find the area of an unusual shape. Note: you'll need a ruler or some other measuring device to do this assignment. Here's what I'd like you to do:

  1. Find a flat object with an unusual shape. A good object to use is a leaf, but you can pick something else if you'd like.
  2. Approximate the area of your shape using rectangles or triangles. Keep the methods of Section 5.1 in mind as you proceed.
  3. Document your process via pictures.

On the discussion board, post: a picture of your object & a written description of what you did. Make sure to include the shape you used to approximate the area (rectangles or triangles) and what your found the approximate area to be.

| used a leaf contour for an irregular shape, and the right-hand endpoints method to calculate the area. Hint: Graph ruled sheet works the best, the side of a square is 5 mm, and using 2 squares as a base will ease the calculations, as it's equal to 1 cm. The leaf was placed purposely over x-axis to create an axis of symmetry. The area of the leaf was approximately 78.75 cm, which is approximately 12.206 sq. inch. a...'.. 'm _ w So what I did was I measured all of the sides and added them together, and then squared them all to get the area which was 45.56
