Thomas Faist's article Migrants as Transnational Development Agents discusses different mechanisms through which migration might affect development prospects. After reading through this article and the first chapter of the World Bank report on impacts of remittances (by Ratha and Maimbo), discuss two mechanisms through which migration could boost development and two mechanisms through which it might hurt development prospects for countries of origin (i.e. countries that migrants come from).
