Thoughts on the way I answered the following question:
Q: Discuss why ethical guidelines are important in research. Additionally, suggest some unique ethical challenges that research may face in the field of criminology or criminal justice.
A: Ethics defines how people view moral standards and how they are being pushed. Many people think that some moral standards are wrong while others are good. An example of this can be taken by the decision of using a mask in public. The health officials recommend putting on a mask. Even though it is a choice to wear one or not, does that mean that we are unethical if do not wear one? The answer can be no because it is choice. However, others can view it as breaking the law in some way. We see that some shops require masks to shop and will not let you in without one or they would provide you one. We know that many people have different opinions and countless ideas if a mask should be work in public. If a person does not wear a mask, are they risking the life of others or if they wear a mask, are they seen as rule follower? It is how you see others and what you think about others and different situations where you think if its morally and ethically valid or not. In chapter 3, we read about taking punishment to the extreme. Depending on the type of crime, the punishment differs from state to state. Some of the challenges that we can face in the field is what is a probable cause for arrest, or did the person kill as a way of self-defense or not. To resolve that solution would be difficult and would need to be determined based on evidence and cause if it was ethically correct what the person committed. We understand that criminology and criminal justice are defined differently, and it is important to understand what these two titles mean and how this can be used in the field of interest. Beccaria developed two terms that are specific and general deterrence, and both of these terms allow us to understand if a criminal would allow others to continue doing the offense or letting others engage in criminal activity. An example provided is about a person who is publicly arrested even, go through the process and at the end, the charges are dismissed.
