three main take-aways from this course:These could relate to course materials(readings and videos),interactions on the discussion board, personal experiences related to your understanding and experience of suffering
I really enjoyed taking this course and learning more about counseling from a Christian perspective; throughout the duration of the course, I was presented with many valuable pieces of information that I will be able to use in the future when I begin to work as a therapist. One main takeaway that I have gained from this course is that I enforced my Christian worldview through reading about the central tenets found in Frederick's paper regarding the different models of psychotherapy. I have always maintained that I look at the world through a Christian worldview, and reading about the different aspects that make up that Christian worldview according to Frederick (2009), I was able to reinforce that belief. Another main takeaway that I have gained from this course is that through the discussion board posts I was able to challenge my belief of whether humans were inherently good or evil. I was able to read more about this topic both in the Bible and in the required readings provided for the course, along with that I was able to read the different opinions that my classmates had on the topic and the justifications they provided for their reasoning. Lastly, another takeaway that I have from this course is actually related to the fact that we had to include at least two references to scripture in each of our discussion posts. Lately I have been so busy that I have found it hard to set aside time to read my Bible regularly and having to include Bible verses in the weekly discussion posts forced me to find time to do so. By doing so I have been able to find a new favorite Bible verse that I find myself quoting when I am feeling overwhelmed with everything on my to-do list. Proverbs 12:25 states, "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad." 1 Peter 5:7 also states, "Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." Through these verses I have begun to work on my anxiety over different things and instead it has taught me to turn to scripture to find happiness and peace.
