The juice is blended, pasteurized, and bottled for sale in 12-ounce plastic bottles. The average worker can process 10 bottles of juice per minute, or 600 bottles per hour. Tina's has been in business for several years and uses a sophisticated sales forecasting model based on previous sales, expected changes in demand, and economic factors affecting the industry. Sales of juice are highly seasonal, peaking in the first quarter of the calendar year.

Following is some other information that relates to Tina's Fine Juices:
A. Juice is sold for $1.05 per 12-ounce bottle, in cartons that hold 50 bottles each.
B. Tina's Fine Juices tries to maintain at least 10 percent of the next month's estimated sales in inventory at the end of each month.
C. The company needs to prepare two purchases budgets: one for the concentrate used in its orange juice and one for the bottles that are purchased from an outside supplier. Tina's has determined that it takes 1 gallon of orange concentrate for every 32 bottles of finished product. Each gallon of concentrate costs $4.80. j. The company plans to buy some new machinery in February 2005 at a cost of $75,000. The equipment will have a useful life of 10 years and uses straight line depreciation. The company also plans on paying a dividend of $50,000 in January 2005. Tina's also desires to maintain a cash balance of at least $50,000 at the end of any month. If the projected cash balance is less than that, a line of credit at first national bank will be used to make up the shortage. If the company draws on the line of credit is used, money is borrowed at the beginning of the month. Repayments are made at the end of months in which there is sufficient excess cash (over $50,000) to pay back the entire line of credit. Last, but not least, Tina pays estimated income taxes on a quarterly basis (in March, June, September and December) on the income earned during the respective quarter. The company estimates that its total liability (federal and state) is around 35 percent of taxable income.
