Title IX is a law that was created by the United States government which protects students and people from any form of discrimination within education programs (U.S Department ofEducation, 2021). The forms of discrimination include harassment on age, disability's, origin, race, skin color, religion, sex, pregnancy, veteran status etc (GCU, 2021). Personally when it comes to Title IX, I unfortunately have had close friends during my time at Stony Brook University that have feel to victim of this. Starting my connection as classmates first then turning intofriends, it was emotionally and mentally painful seeing my friends scarred from acts of sexual harassment and forms of racism. Thankfully, Stony Brook University emphasized this policy consistentlyand we immediately went to Campus Police to report this. During this time as a student, I was very concerned over my friends well being while juggling all of my coursework. My GPA dropped severely the semester this happened but honestly, as long as my friends were okay that is all that mattered to me.

For those wondering, Title IX was extremely helpful in making sure that justice was served for those two individuals that committed those acts on my friends. The consequences are no joke as one student faced expulsion and the otherreceived a suspension for a certain amount of years. Currently, my two friends are doing much better at the moment and they are living their lives day by day. We are taught and reminded ofthis law as soon as we start because there is no room for forms of discrimination in any setting. Even though we are in an online learning environment, this still applies to all of us. Diversity is one of the most beautiful parts of education because we can collaborate and learn from multipleperspectives from different backgrounds. Title IX makes sure that all of us are treated equally and that we can all have the same great educational experience. Do you agree? why or why Not?
