To begin, please read the case study linked below. This case study will serve as the basis for your discussion post this week and for your Week 6 Case Study Essay: Case Study for Discussion.docx Case Study for Discussion.docx - Alternative Formats After reading the case study, use your initial post to address the following prompts: Explain how you would share Isabella's progress with her family and how you would encourage her family to be more involved in Isabella's education. Describe at least 2 community resources you believe your program should share with Isabella's family. Demonstrate how you would implement strategies in your class curriculum that support diversity and anti-bias as it pertains to welcoming Isabella into your classroom.

Case Study

You have a new student in your classroom named Isabella. Her parents are Marcus and Maria. The family has recently moved to the area and are first generation immigrants from Mexico. Marcus is proficient in speaking English while Maria has been learning for several years yet still struggles to communicate. Maria's mother and two younger siblings of Isabella's also live in the home.

Isabella is a pleasure to have in class and typically very happy throughout the day. She is bilingual and is doing very well learning English. However, she sometimes struggles to express herself. You would like to have some time with the family to explain child development and family engagement in the program to help them be more involved in Isabella's daily care.

It has been difficult to schedule a meeting because the family has one car that Marcus uses to bring Isabella to school and then go to work. You rarely see Maria. You also recently learned the family is struggling to find a family dentist and family doctor in the area. Transportation makes finding doctors and scheduling appointments difficult and the family has no internet access at home to do any research. Marcus has also told you the grandmother does not believe Isabella should be in a preschool program to "just play" since she could do that at home. You would like to explain learning through play to the family in more detail.
