To date. m E; is by far the most successful producer of electric vehicles {EVs}. The Federal Government =1 and a number of state governments =4 have been pressuring other auto manufacturers to focus more on the production of EVs, but for the most part. these automakers claim that they have been losing money by trying to comply. For example. Ford has been losing about $36.000 for every EV =-'+ that they have made recently. Moreover. car dealerships complain that the EVs just sit on their car lots and are not selling 5. Even so. some ofthese automakers are highly dependent on government support and subsidies, and so they have been trying their best to comply, but they are still making most of their prots from gas powered vehicles =-'+. All that said. GM for one, is predicting that they will stop losing money on EVs in the upcomingyear =4. But. the question still remains, will the consumers bite. While some sources claim that EVs are less expensive =-'+ than gas powered vehicles per mile. others argue that the typical EV fuel costs end upbg higher. adding about $12 on top of the cost of a gallon of gas =1. In this context, your task is to write a short essay on whether and why the seeming discrepancy between what the automakers are trying to sell and what the consumers are willing to buy when it comes to EVs is likely to persist over the next few years. As part of your essay make sure that you discuss both the determinants of demand for EVs and the likelihood that the demand will change in the foreseeable future
