To prepare for seminar on weeks 4, 6, 8, you'll identify and bring a Critical Incident that happened in the early learning program that you worked to the group. A Critical Incident is something that happened in your practicum that you've identified as significant to your growth as a professional.

Briefly describe the Critical Incident

1.What happened? Who was involved? What was your role/involvement?

Why are you bringing it to the group for discussion?

Why is this important? For example:

Does the Incident illustrate a dilemma in your practice?

For example, challenges based on values or ethics?

Does the incident challenge your knowledge or skills? Does it highlight areas for growth?

Do you need peer support and input? Do you need to hear different perspectives from your group?

What personal assumptions do you bring that may have influenced the situation, your actions, or your interpretation of the situation?

For example:

How do concepts of justice and equity relate to the incident?

What did you learn about yourself and your relationships with others?

How did differences/assumptions/stereotypes related to race, gender/identity, language, ability or other identities impact the situation?

What theory (or theories) has (or might have) helped develop your understanding about some aspect of this incident?

What research has (or might have) helped develop your understanding about some aspect of this incident?

How does what you've learned impact your practice?

For example:

Are there ways in which this incident has led (or might lead to) changes in how you think, feel or act in particular situations?

How has this impacted your opinions or personal assumptions?

What gaps in your knowledge or skills have you identified? How might they be addressed?
