Town Finance Corporation (TFC) foreclosed on a mortgage following a dispute with Hughes

as to whether a loan had been repaid. TFC had a locksmith remove the locks of Hughes'

dwelling. When no one was home, TFC personnel then entered the house, seized household goods, and left the inside of the house in disarray. Hughes filed suit over the debt. The court

held that the finance company had been paid and thus had no further right of action against

Hughes. Hughes thereupon filed this action, which claimed malicious and willful trespass

and asked both actual (compensatory) and punitive damages. Was Hughes entitled to judgment? (Town Finance Corporation v. Hughes, 214 S.E.2d 387)
