The goal is to answer the question, "Does trauma affect brain stem activation in a way that inhibits memory?"

In this module, open the SPSS data set,"Trauma BSA and Memory Loss."

There are 30 (hypothetical) subjects, each of which has been classified into one of three basic trauma groups: mild, moderate, and severe.There are also varying degrees within each category (e.g., Class C moderate trauma), but for the moment the three types are all that matter.

Each subject has been tested for two other phenomena: brain stem activation (theother predictor [X] variable) and thedependent variable, memory loss (Y).

There are three subgoals that canbe reachedreach using mediation:

To answer these questions, run a regression for each using the variables mentioned.

1. Is there a significant relationship between X1 and Y?That is, does trauma significantly affect memory loss, and if so, by how much?

2. Is there a significant relationship between X1 and X2?That is, does trauma significantly affect brain stem activation, and if so, by how much?

3. Is there a significant relationship between X1, X2, and Y?That is, how much do X1 and X2 together affect memory loss?Is the overall relationship significant at all?
