On May 1, a week after those conversations started, Que sent Trend a signed letter dated May 1 stating, "I will work for Trend as a head grill-master for two years for an annual salary of $100,000." On the morning of May 3, Selena telephoned Que and said, "The $100,000 is really high. Would you accept an annual salary of $80,000 a year?" Que replied: "I am a renowned grill-master. I will not work for any less."

On May 4, Selena sent Que a signed letter by regular mail stating: "You know, I've had your ribs and wings. They are delicious. You deserve an annual salary of $100,000 for two years. We'd love to have you join our team at Trend at $100,000 for two years."

Later that afternoon, Que telephoned Selena and left a voice message where he said: "I really love your restaurant. I think that I was a little harsh last time we spoke. I'll work for Trend for an annual salary of $80,000 for two years."

On May 5, Selena received Que's voicemail and immediately telephone Que. Selena said, "I just got your voicemail! We're so glad you had a change of heart! Would you be able to start on May 7?" Que replied: "I can't wait to get started. I'll see you then!"

On May 6, Que received the letter that Selena sent on May 4.
