Trust has to be fostered and earned, especially in local congregations. In most church settings, the congregation has seen pastors and other staff members come and go. Some they wanted to see go, and others they did not. When a new staff member arrives, he or she must begin immediately to build trust. By studying hard, seeking wise counsel, and honestly praying for and following God's counsel, the staff members can build trust effectively. Trust is the equity of leadership. If a group trusts the leader and his or her judgment, they will be more willing to follow when difficult decisions are faced.
