Professionals use statistics in their field to collect data, organize numbers and analyze the information at hand (Bennett, 2017). In the National Football League, the scout can use data from players from the 40-yard dash, high jump, and specific other skills depending on their position to make an informed decision during draft day.

When drafting a football player, the scout and coaches must weigh the odds, factors, date, and many other scenarios. From the combined studies that "the forty-yard dash, vertical jump, and broad jump appeared to be the best predictors of draft order selection (Robbins, 2010). So, if the scout wanted a particular player, he could persuade the coach on the numbers from the combine and the public. The NFL combine is public yearly, so everyone gets to watch it.
