Two chemists working for a chicken fast food company, have been producing a very popular sauce. Let's call then James and Tan. Ahmad, their boss, is tired of Tan's negative attitude and is thinking about "firing" him and keeping only James on payroll. The problem, however, is that Tan seems to produce a higher quality sauce whenever he is in charge of production if compared to James. Before making a final decision, Ahmad collected some data measuring the quality of different batches of sauce produced by Tan and James. The results, measured on a quality scale, are listed below: Tan James average 97 94 std. deviation 1 3 sample size 7 10 (a) Based on the above data, determine who is the better chemist. (b) Ahmad wants to keep the mean quality score for the sauce above 90. In this case, determine whether it is possible to get rid of Tan, i.e., is James good enough to run the sauce production.
