You can't afford to advertise to everyone all at the same time. It's just too expensive and not everyone is interested in your product. Companies segment the overall market into bite sized chunks, then they advertise specifically to that segment. Have you ever seen an advertisement for a Bugatti supercar? No? That's because we're not in the segment of the population who can afford (demographic) a Bugatti.
