Two technologies used in our supply chain are big data and real-time product information. With my aircraft, we have contracted out maintenance. It allows them more free movement as they are certified tip-to-tail to fix issues. They are specialized in a certain system like our last maintenance corps was which increased the number of maintainers needed and increased the number of bureaucratic hoops to jump through. Our contracted maintainers use big data collected world wide on the aircraft to implement changes to technology and fix issues as they get feedback from other planes. Real-time product information for them is when they travel on missions with us sort of as crew members but they are there to solve an issue as it arises. They have certificates that we don't as pilots which allow them to do more than we can with fixing an issue.
