Two towns are situated to the north of a freeway. A new access ramp to the freeway is to be built so that, for reasons of economy, the access roads from the two towns to the ramp have the smallest possible total length. For simplicity, suppose that the highway is the maxis and the towns are situated at the points of coordinates (0,1) and (3,5). Find the desired location of the new ramp. (This is, of course, a calculus problem but it also has a neat geometric solution involving almost no calculation. Can you nd it?)
