Two vessels are connected by a piping line consisting of 5-in pipe which is 325ft long and then a sudden contraction to a 3-in pipe which is 502ft long. The 4-in pipe has one gate valve, wide open, and two 90-degree standard elbows. The 2.5-in pipe has three 90-degree standard elbows, one gate valve, wide open, and one globe valve. We need to order a pump for a 165-gpm flow rate of a fluid which has a specific gravity 0.85 and a kinematic viscosity 2 cSt. Please find: a) The pump head, in feet. (For this problem, the head form of B.E. is convenient) b) The horsepower that the pumps motor must deliver, assuming there are no losses in pump, motor, coupling, etc. The design conditions for the two vessels are shown in table below. Condition Vessel 1 P max 20 psig, P min 8 psig, Max liquid level (above the ground) 43 ft, Min liquid level (above the groud) 21 ft, Vessel 2 P max 81 psig, P min 47 psig Max liquid level (above the ground) 127 ft, Min liquid level (above the ground) 100 ft
