Tyndale Tarp Company specializes in the manufacturing of tarpaulins for athletic fields and wishes to develop an aggregate plan for April through September. Tyndale has 10 tarps in initial inventory and the present workforce can produce 180 tarpaulins per month. Tarpaulins produced during regular time cost Tyndale $160, those produced in overtime cost $250 apiece, and any that are subcontracted cost $320 each. Holding costs for a tarpaulin are $30/month and shortage costs for lost sales are $1000 / tarp. Hiring one extra worker can increase production by 40 tarpaulins / month and costs Tyndale $6000, while laying one off similarly decreases production and costs $7200 per worker.

This time we are going to assume that the Monthly Demand for these tarps is Normally distributed with a mean of 160 tarps per month and a standard deviation of 12 tarps. Use Excel to randomly generate 10 time horizons for BOTH of the plans listed below. Post your Total Costs for the 10 trials from each aggregate plan and then use an appropriate T-Test in Excel to determine if there are any significant differences in the mean costs for these two plans.

Use Excel to create ten independently generated 6-month tables (8 columns for each month) and calculate and then report the total costs for each of the 10 trials for both of the plans:

Month

Demand

Reg

OT

Subc

Hold

NOTE: When you turn in your HW, include just one table (a single time horizon) for each plan and then a separate Excel T-Test worksheet. (3 worksheets only.)

(a) Plan A: Keep the current workforce and let inventory vary. First use overtime up to 10% of regular time capacity and then subcontracting to meet the rest of the demand.

(b) Plan B: Increase the initial workforce to produce at a steady rate of 180 tarps per month and let inventory vary and shortages occur. Allow no overtime or subcontracting.
