Typically, CSVs (and spreadsheets in general) contain a wide variety of data. They do not just contain strings. They can contain numbers and dates. However, the function read_csv does not take any of this into consideration. It just returns the contents of the CSV as a table of strings, no matter how it was originally entered into the spreadsheet.
