UK EMPLOYMENT LAW REFERENCE: EQUALITY ACT 2010 help me complete this tutorial Ahmad has been working for
Question:
UK EMPLOYMENT LAW
REFERENCE: EQUALITY ACT 2010
help me complete this tutorial
Ahmad has been working for 88 Hokkien Advertising Company as an Account Executive Since March 2020. He is of Pakistani Origin but has been living in the UK for the past 15 years. His team leader and line manager is Kawhi George. Ahmad is the only non-White employee in his team.
(I assume there is no problem here)
Kawhi often made fun of Ahmad's accent at team meetings and referred to one of the janitor at the company, originally from Afghanistan as "the terrorist" and suggested he had secretly attended a terrorist training camp in Pakistan, where Ahmad found all of it very upsetting but when Ahmad objected Kawhi, he said he meant nothing by it and it will just a bit of banter
(my question is this direct or indirect discrimination, is Kawhi making part of Ahmad accent direct discrimination? and is referring his as terrorist an indirect discrimination?)
For the past two months, Ahmad and the team have been working on an advertising campaign for a new client. This mean a lot of work and working long hours to get the required ready to be presented to the client in two weeks time. However, last week Kawhi told Ahmad that he would not be required at the presentation but Ahmad found out that the rest all of the team have been invited except for him. He felt so disgusted and filed a grievances with H.R the same day
(another question is that is this direct or indirect discrimination or is this harassment (under s26 of the act?)
Kawhi allowed his team to work from home at least once a week. But Kawhi called Ahmad into his office yesterday and was very red in the face. He shouted something about an email from H.R and Ahmad would not be able to work from home anymore as he had abused the privilege by viewing a flat he was interested in buying.
(my question is this harassment or victimisation(s27 of the act) ? )
Advise Ahmad on whether he has any claims that he could bring and any remedies if his claim are successful
Thank you.
