Understanding the "when" and "why" of a research design is an important part of organizing and reporting intervention results. Now that you have gained some insight into some common designs used in research and practice, it is time to put that knowledge to work.

Please respond to the following:

• Explain the guidelines for utilizing a Withdrawal and Changing Criterion design.
• Provide a short discussion on the internal and external validity issues as well as an overview of the advantages and disadvantages of each design.
• Identify a hypothetical target behavior (dependent variable) for change and a possible intervention (independent variable) that you would use with either the withdrawal or changing criterion design.
  • Operationally define the target behavior in observable and measurable terms and provide a rationale to justify the use of your chosen design for the target behavior and intervention that you have identified.

Review two of your classmates' responses, using the following ideas as a guide:

• Provide feedback on whether the rationale for the use of the chosen design is appropriate for the target behavior.
• Review the operational definition and provide feedback or suggestions on whether any modifications would be necessary to make it clearer and/or complete.
• Ask at least one thoughtful follow-up question.
