Assignment Description Assignment 1 - (Weight 5%)

Question 1: Network Administration

In your own words and from your reading, list what you think are the three most important responsibilities of a System Administrator, and the three least important. Give relevant reasons for your choices. As you are aware of Network Administrators that, they usually use lots of IT jargon terms such as (Clone, Snapshot and Copy. e.g. copy your Linux virtual machine) discuss and briefly explain the difference between the three approaches. [15 Marks]

Question 2: Linux (digital certificates)

Your IT manager at work asked you to re-new a digital certificate for Apache web server on Ubuntu 16.04 and the task had been completed successfully. Based on your successful experience with Ubuntu, discuss and

briefly explain the advantages and disadvantages of both self-signed and authority-issued digital certificates for web servers. This must be properly referenced and be in your own words - do not just copy a table from somewhere. [15 Marks]

Question 3: (nano, vim and Emacs) text editors

In Unix and Linux systems, the configuration of the operating system, servers, applications and preferences is commonly stored in plain text files. You want to view the hardware attached to the system, view a text file. You want to set the colour scheme for your terminal, edit a text file. In your own words and from your reading, Investigate and answer the following questions: [15 Marks]

3. 3) Why do computer programmers use so many text editors?

Note: Must consider at least five current references from journal/conference papers and books. Must follow IEEE referencing style. [5 Marks]
