Upon taking the position of Head Golf Professional, Stevens signed an employment letter that contained the following termination provision:

The corporation may terminate your employment without cause at any time by providing you with notice or payment in lieu of notice, and/or severance pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act.

Three years after signing the agreement, Stevens was terminated without cause, and she was given three weeks' pay in lieu of notice, as required by the ESA. The employer also continued her group benefits during those three weeks.
