Upon watching the video on Barry Minkow, the fraud triangle connects to him and what he did for the following reasons. First, he was just a 16-year-old boy when he started a carpet cleaning business, ZZZZ Best, in the basement of his parents' California home. The company was allegedly a front for a Ponzi scheme and appeared to be a solvent business due to Minkow's insurance scams, bad checks, and lies. During the company's initial public offering in late 1986, it was valued at more than $300 million. As for the fraud triangle, the opportunity came from his company gaining recognition and realizing that he could do lot more with it. The pressure came from him being unable to make payroll. Lastly, the rationalization was that it would not be going on for long and was only a short-term thing.

Circumstances that should have drawn red flags were that Barry did not even have a driver's license and friends needed to take him to workplaces. He also had some difficulties in meeting basic expenses because California law never permitted minors to sign contracts such as checks.

I do think that Barry is entitled to another chance in relation to detecting and investigating fraud now because he could be a lot of help. He would be able to pick things apart and be able to identify fraud much easier than a person who has never committed fraud before. I think the like-mindedness really comes into play and ultimately, Barry does indeed deserve a chance in helping detect fraud as he can be valuable.
