This episode has three parts, and the first two are all that is assigned.

This is a discussion on the history of antitrust policy in America. It is a very interesting introduction to the nature of antitrust and contains examples of how we think about competition (and why we like it) as economists. The example of Standard Oil (ep 1) is a great example of how firms can get large enough to begin to impede competition.

Assignment:

Listen to the podcast and answer the following question:

- The podcast describes a shift in focus of antitrust between Episodes 1 & 2. What was this shift? What do you think should be the focus of antitrust now? Can you see any potential "Standard Oil" cases in the world around us?
