Use and/or develop your networking skills to meet and hold an inperson OR virtual interview with a project manager. Your interviewee may be employed at any company, in any industry and operate at any level in the corporation but must be working in Canada or your home country. Your interviewee does NOT have to hold a PMP designation. Include your interviewee's business card OR provide full name and contact information. Include the meeting date, time and, if applicable, platform (eg. Zoom, Webex, MS Teams, etc). For purposes of this assignment email interviews are not allowed. NO FAMILY MEMBERS can be chosen! Use the internet and/or information obtained in the interview to briefly describe the organization where your interviewee works. For example, the business/industry/products; the number of locations; the number of employees; is it unionized? Etc etc. Discuss with your Interviewee: A description of a project that your interviewee is now managing or has managed Also include here information such as: how the project was initiated, the planning that was involved, how team members were chosen and managed, the outcome, etc. A description of the team member roles and working/reporting relationships for this project. Were project organization charts and position descriptions created, followed? How the team communicates For example, was a communications plan created before the project was launched? How often is project information communicated? To who? What forms do communications take? How often does the project team meet? Are regular status reports produced? Challenges in project management For example: Ask your interviewee about the challenges they face as a project manager? What does your interviewee think are the biggest threats to the successful completion of a project? Pandemic impact. For example, how has the pandemic impacted how your interviewee has managed their project(s) during the last couple of years? How they work with/manage their teams? How they communicate with their team? Etc etc. Your interviewee's academic background For example: What education do they have? Have they taken courses in project management? How did they acquire their job? Do they hold the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation? What is their opinion of the PMP designation? Practical information that could benefit you as a developing project manager For example: What associations should you consider joining? What books/journals/websites do they recommend? What advice can they give you to help you get into this field? What skills/competencies do they see as being necessary for a career in project management? Your Personal Reflection: How did you come to interview this person? Did this exercise make you feel more comfortable networking? Your observations, comments and feelings about the interview For example: How did your interview go? What impressed you? What disappointed you? What, if anything, surprised you? Any challenges? Were you able to tie the information you heard during your interview to what you've learned in the program so far? Project Management Standards To what extent do you think your interviewee and their company follows the formal practices and guidelines of project management? Use a scale of 1 - 10 with ten being "follows exactly" and explain. Requirements and format: There is no minimum or maximum number of pages. Rather than using a question/answer format, summarize the discussion in your own words under the above headings. Use size 11 type and double-space your typing. Writing Quality/Professionalism counts. Marks are allocated for proper grammar and spelling.
