Use AS 2118.1-2017 to determine the hazard classification for a sprinkler system in building described below (for all areas of the building) and tabulate the design criteria including:
- the number of sprinkler heads assumed to activate in the area of operation,
- the activation temperature of the sprinklers,
- the minimum operating pressure for the sprinklers
- the discharge density
By calculation, determine the water storage requirements for the automatic fire sprinkler system (the size of the sprinkler tank). You may assume that the water supply to serve the fire hydrant system is required to have an effective capacity of 25,000 L. Use the attached pressure and flow inquiry results for details of the street main supply.
Determine the pressure required at outlet of pump. Assume that the pressure loss for pipes and elbows to distribute water from the riser to the hydraulic most disadvantaged point on each floor is 68 kPa.
The building is located on a university campus and consists of multiple uses as per below:
- Basement B1 and B2 - Carpark
- Ground Level - Retail (food outlets, Caf, news agency, travel agent and book store)
- Level 1 Small tutorial rooms
- Level 2 Large lecture theatres
- Level 3 Library - no stack rooms
- Level 4 Cafeteria and Restaurant
- Level 5 Offices
- Level 6 Offices
- Level 7 Offices
- Roof Plant rooms
The building has a footprint of 1,900 m2. The slab to slab height on each Level is 3.4 m. Please show all
your working and calculations.
