The question the needs to be answered from the datasheet Amazon is "What are the factors that contribute to any differences in Retail and Amazon's book pricing?" This will give the opportunity to explore at least 6 variables in the selected dataset.
Listed below are the techniques that need to be used and what we are trying to address by using that technique.
Identified are which variable(s) in the dataset will be used for each technique. (Remember, all selected techniques should support the exploration of the dataset to answer the research question).
Please complete these techniques using SPSS or Excel when needed. Most will need to be done in SPSS!!
There is a list of the methods below that should be included. You should include at least 6 methods INCLUDING ANOVA. All other methods besides ANOVA are listed below!
Technique 1: frequency distributions, crosstabulations (contingency tables), and graphs to describe categorical variables
Variable(s): Amazon vs retail price
Reason: One way to summarize categorical data is to simply countthe number of individuals that fall into each category. The number of individuals in any given category is called the frequency (or count) for that category. So, for this, it will be Amazon prices vs. retail prices. Options include bar charts, pie charts, andhistograms.
Technique 2: Include a confidence interval to estimate a population proportion
Variable(s): Hardcover books vs paper
Reason: I will find the confidence interval for a population proportionto show the statistical probability that a character is likely to occur within the population. So, I will show the probability of hardcover books vs. paperback books
Technique 3: Include a confidence interval to estimate a population mean
Variable(s):use it to identify the two groups to compare with descriptive statistics and perhaps a quantitative variable such as Amazon price.
Reason: A confidence interval for the mean isa way of estimating the true population means. Instead of a single number for the mean, a confidence interval gives you a lower estimate and an upper estimate.
Technique 4: Use of exploratory data analysis to summarize the quantitative variable
Variable(s): Amazon vs retail price
Reason: The main purpose isto help identify obvious errors, as well as better understand patterns within the data, detect outliers or anomalous events, find interesting relations among the variables.Some advantages of Exploratory Data Analysis includeImproving the understanding of variables by extracting averages, mean, minimum, and maximum values, etc. Discover errors, outliers, and missing values in the data. Identify patterns by visualizing data in graphs such as box plots, scatter plots, and histograms.
Technique 5: Conduct a chi-square test
Variable(s): Amazon vs retail price
Reason: A chi-square test is a statistical test used to compare observed results with expected results. The purpose of this test isto determine if a difference between observed data and expected data is due to chance, or if it is due to a relationship between the variables you are studying. The data will be the amazon price vs the retail price of the books.
