Sentinel Child Care, an early learning child care centre in metropolitan Adelaide owned and operated by Julie has one employee, Kiera. In keeping with the promotion of digital learning, Julie wants to create a digital library at Sentinel which provides its students access to Apple iPads. Together, Julie and Kiera meet with Apple salesperson, Stephen. Julie explains that she wants to expand her childcare facilities to cater to digital technology education of her students. They get some product information and leave. Julie later tells Kiera, 'I have a $45,000 budget. I want you to buy 10.2-inch Apple ipads (9th Generation)- do not spend more than $45,000. The next day, Kiera meets with Stephen. Stephen shows Kiera the new 10.9-inch iPad Air range. He recommends that Kiera buy the Ipad Air given its greater capabilities telling her that she will not regret the purchase. Kiera purchases the iPad Airs on credit for $80,000 and signs the contract, 'Kiera, on behalf of 'Sentinel Child Care'. When the iPads are delivered that weekend, Julie is angry. Julie says to Kiera: 'I told you that the budget was $45,000 - Sentinel cannot afford $80,000. I refuse to pay for this.' Stephen contacts Sentinel when the invoice has not been paid. Julie tells Stephen that Kiera did not have the authority to purchase the iPad Airs, and that Sentinel will not pay for it. Using relevant legal principles of agency law only, discuss whether Kiera had the authority to purchase the ipad Airs on behalf of Sentinel Child Care. Will Julie be required to pay the invoice
