Volunteer Information System Overview Willow Creek Academy was established as a public charter school in Colorado in 1995. Public charter schools operate as parent run schools without school boards. Parents of enrolled students elect a senate to set policies and provide oversight to the school administration and faculty. Willow Creek Academy's charter authorizes it to offer a core knowledge curriculum to grades K to 8 with two classes per grade consisting of 25 students per class. Other important policies established by the school senate involve uniforms, homework levels, and parental involvement. To compensate for fewer resources, charter schools typically require parental involvement through various volunteer activities.
