Using social media is a great way to build your network. Social media, combined with a personal tact, can strengthen your network. Networking is a lot of work and relies on building relationships. Another way to increase your network is by joining career associations. These associations allow personnel with expertise to share lessons learned and best practices to improve a career field. I tried to talk to anyone I could start a conversation with. I have been in the military my entire career, but I work in the sustainment area. Building relationships with Soldiers in other career fields allowed me to land positions with people I know and feel comfortable working for. Some people usually express their dislike for other areas not related to their field, but you never know when one can make a positive impact and remember you for helping them and recommend you to people in leadership positions.
