USING TARGET AND WALMART
  • Review the 'business description' section of each company's latest 10-K. In 3-4 slides, summarize, compare, and contrast the 2 business descriptions. For example, where do they compete directly? What areas of business do they not compete in? Are there any business activities you were surprised to learn about? And so on. (These are just examples. feel free to add your own conclusions, thoughts, and observations.)
  • Review the latest balance sheet & income statement. For each company, calculate and present 4 major financial ratios - Current ratio (current assets/current liabilities), Return on Assets (Net Income/Total Assets), Debt to Asset (Total Liabilities/Total Assets), Profitability (Net Income/Total Revenues.
  • Present one ratio comparison (company a vs. company b) per slide along with your thoughts on what the ratio comparison is telling you.
  • Review the latest statement of cash flows of both companies. 1 slide should present beginning cash, operating cash flow, investing cash flow, financing cash flow, and ending cash in a table comparing both companies. A second slide should present your thoughts on this comparison. For example, did the two operations generate positive cash flow or not? What used the most cash - operating, investing, or financing? Why? What generated the most cash - operating, investing, or financing? What do you conclude about the two companies? And so on.
  • Do SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. Page 269) Analysis. This could take 1-2 slides per company.
  • Conclusion, if you had a job offer from both companies, which one would you prefer to work for and why? 1-2 slides max.
