Using the instructions below apply Vroom's model by working out your own motive force for working hard on an assignment in order to pass this module well.
Work out your valence (V) for getting a good final mark for the Organisational Behaviour and Management module. Assuming that this will always have a positive value, give valence a score between 0 (you don't care whether or not you get a good mark for the module) to 10 (it is very important to you to get a good mark).
Now give a score for Expectancy (E), your estimate of the probability that if you work hard for the assignment this will result in a good grade. This should be between 0 (zero connection between working hard and getting a good assignment mark) and 1.0 (there is a very strong connection between working hard and getting a good assignment mark). NOTE: the assignment mark corresponds to the first-level outcome in Vroom's model.
Now work out your instrumentality (I) score; that is your estimate of the probability that if you get a good mark for the assignment this will result in you getting a good mark for the module as a whole. This should also be between 0 (zero probability) and 1.0 (high probability). NOTE: the mark for the module as a whole corresponds to the second-level outcome in Vroom's model.
Now work out your motive force by using the formula M = V E I. This should be somewhere between 0-10. What conclusions do you draw from your motive force score?
