- Topology: Label each cable in the topology as straight through or crossover.
- IP Addressing: Verify all IP addresses already configured using CLI commands
- LAN 1 Switch - 192.168.1.1, LAN 1 PC1 - 192.168.1.2. LAN 1 PC2 - 192.168.1.3, Router G0/0- 192.168.1.4 (Not assigned yet)
- LAN 2 PC - 192.168.2.2 and Router g0/1 - 192.168.2.1 (Not assigned yet)
- Make sure to add appropriate gateways to the PCs.
- Connectivity
- Verify connectivity between both PC's on LAN 1
- Verify connectivity between a PC on LAN 1 and the PC on LAN 2
- Telnet from a PC on LAN 1 to the switch. Did you get connectivity?
- Telnet from the PC on LAN 2 to the switch, did you get connectivity?
- View the MAC address table on the switch. (Use show mac-address-table command)
- Which ports had MAC addresses recorded against them?
- Which devices do these MAC addresses belong to? Hint check the MAC addresses of the PCs. (Note: To view the MAC address of a PC, use the ipconfig/all command from the command prompt on the PC.)
- What is the MAC address of each port on the switch that has a device connected to it? What is the command to view MAC addresses of ports on a switch?
- Switch Default Gateway
- Assign the appropriate default gateway to the switch using the command listed below in the global configuration mode. Note: You need to know what the appropriate gateway is. Replace ip address of gateway with the default gateway.
- Telnet from LAN 2 PC to the switch. Do you have connectivity? Why or why not?
- Troubleshooting
- You should be able to ping between the PCs on the same LAN. If you are unable to do these, record the problem and steps taken to attempt to fix it. State whether your troubleshooting step taken worked or did not work.
