Using the passage below, provide feedback on the plans for learning about the leadership style preferences of staff and adapting their style to fit.

Adapting Your Leadership Style

It is important to note that there are various forms of leadership, and all have shown effectiveness in different organizational settings. Transformational leadership encourages people to take action by appealing to their ideas and ideals to bring about change. Servant leadership is focused on creating a positive environment for the employees and is, as a result, associated with high rates of employee morale and retention (Northouse, 2020). While autocratic leadership is considered negative, it can, at times, be of high importance in circumstances that demand speedy and direct decisions. Democratic leadership promotes the involvement of the members, and they have ownership of the ideas generated by the team. Laissez-faire leadership offers decentralization, which means giving the employees a lot of freedom and allowing them to own the responsibilities given to them.

Out of all the leadership styles discussed in class, the one that I dislike most is autocratic leadership. However, one can identify a positive characteristic of this style: the ability to make decisions. Such leaders can also make immediate and decisive decisions that can be helpful in emergency situations (Northouse, 2020). Applying this attribute in my leadership could mean assuming full authority in ruling on key issues that require immediate attention and making quick and clear responses to ensure continuity of progress and quick resolution of issues.

In order to capture the requirements of my team members and what type of leadership style they favor, I would use several techniques. First, I would use questionnaires that would allow participants to express their truthful opinions and an atmosphere of openness. Second, I would carry out one-on-one meetings as a way of ascertaining each person's point of view as well as enhancing rapport. Thirdly, I would focus on the abilities of different individuals and groups to ascertain what strategies are effective.

According to what I have learned, I would modify my leadership style to a decent level to address both my hereditary inclination and the team's propensity. For example, if the team has a strong orientation towards decentralization and democracy, I would invite more brainstorming and goal-setting meetings. At the same time, it is possible to appreciate the need to adhere to other leadership styles where applicable, thus creating an elastic and efficient leadership strategy that promotes effectiveness in both organizational and individual achievement.
