Using two lines of analysis: 1) Industry Attractiveness and 2) Business-Unit Competitive Strength based on the Apple Company (Please see pages 163-168 in the textbook:ESSENTIALS OF STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT: THE QUEST FOR COMPETITIVE ADVANTAG7e) As the analyst you need to decide upon a list of 5-8 measures forIndustry Attractiveness and a list of 5-8 measures of 5-8 measures for Business-Unit Competitive Strength.
On the Industry Attractiveness side, you need to:
- determine 5-8 measures that you will use to analyze Apple (half of your measures may come from the book, the other half must come from you);
- show the importance/weight of each measure (be sure that the summation of your weights adds up to 100%); and
- give a rating (1-10) on each industry.
For example, some of Disney's industries are: streaming services, movies, and theme parks. So for this week, I would do the following (this is for only three measures and you are to pick 5-8):
Industry Attractiveness measure | Importance/Weight | Streaming Services Rating/Score | Movies Rating/Score | Theme Parks Rating/Score |
Market Size and projected growth rate | 40 | 8 (8 * 0.40 = 3.20) | 7 | 6 |
Intensity of competition | 30 | 9 (9 * 0.30 = 2.70) | 7 | 7 |
Emerging Opportunities and Threats | 30 | 6 (6 * 0.30 = 1.80) | 8 | 5 |
Total | 100% | 3.20 + 2.70 + 1.80 = 7.70 | 7.30 | 6.00 |
