Using your own thinking make an assesmentAfter taking the LASSI assessment, look at your academic strengths and weaknesses, as guided through the Interpreting LASSI Results video online. Then let's use these results to help you identify a current academic challenge you're experiencing and crowdsource possible effective solutions.
Write at least a 4 sentence responsein which you
- name the categoriesof your top 2 strengths andyour top 2 weaknesses
- state whether you agree or disagreewith the results and why specifically you do or do not
- identify one thing you need to work onthis semester, being as specific as possible (Don't just sayTime Management; instead indicate whether your challenge is procrastination, cramming, managing work and school, accurately planning how long an assignment will take, etc). You can also specify what class or types of assignments you're experiencing this challenge in.
- explain how you know this is a problemand experience its negative consequences (ex: because of the stress you experience, low/lowered performance, turning in assignments late, poor grades, confusion in a specific class, feeling like you're not learning what you need to, etc)
You'll want to provide enough information so that your classmates can respond withsome helpful, tailored strategies to help you improve.
Here's an example response. Please do not feel you have to mimic this responseexactly. It's just here to give you a general idea of expectations.
According to my LASSI results, my strengths are ATT (Attitude) and SMI (Selecting Main Idea) and my weaknesses are TMT (Time Management) and UAR (Using Academic Resources). I agree that I have a good attitude and interest in learning andgenerally have no problem picking out the main idea of what I'm reading or learning. Idon't use my time well (I procrastinate a lot!), and don't use the resources available to me, like free tutoring. It's becoming clear that I have to get a better handle on my time management if I'm going to reach my academic goals and transfer to my top choice university. In particular, I've been having a hard time with making time to read and study, and I've been doing almost all of my assignments the day they're due, which is really stressful. I'm getting behind and overwhelmed, and I know I'm not turning in my best work.
Then, respond to two of your classmatesby writing at least two sentences that
- provide each one a specific, effective, actionablesolutionto the problem that they are planning to address and briefly explain the solution
- include a sourcewhere the original postermay go to get more information about the solution
For example: Your classmate is having real issues with test-taking anxiety. It's been an issue since high school, but has become much worse since they started taking college classes. They know this is a problem because of the stress they experience ahead of a test and because they don't feel they are doing as well as they could on the tests they're taking. You can share one possible solution is to establish a consistent pre-test routine. Explain what that is and then provide a link to this strategy on the Mayo Clinic website.
